Taveres, Fla. -- The University of Lynchburg beach volleyball team placed third in the silver bracket at the American Volleyball Coaches Association small colleges beach volleyball national championship Sunday.
The Hornets lost to Lake Sumter 3-2 in the first match of the day and defeated East Texas Baptist 3-0 in the third-medal match.
Against Lake Sumter, Lynchburg won on the top-two courts. Jordan Palmer and Kailey Keough won 21-15, 21-14 at the top flight. At No. 2, Mady Shirey and SJ Yanz played slightly closer sets but still pulled off the victory 21-19, 21-18.
Mackenzie Ingrassia and Amanda Trapp won their first set at No. 4 but dropped the next two sets.
After falling in the first round of the silver bracket, the Hornets took on East Texas Baptist for the second time of the weekend.
The Hornets grabbed the victory after winning on Courts 2, 3 and 5. Shirey and Yanz took down their opponents 21-18, 21-13. Margo Fox and Parker Lynch won 21-7, 21-17, and Landon Spotts and Molly Ballew grabbed a win at the fifth flight.
Lynchburg played in the silver bracket after losing their first match of the national tournament to Hendrix on Saturday.
Lynchburg (12-20) has one more matchup on its schedule. The Hornets will take on Liberty on Friday, April 21.
