Box Score 2 Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg celebrated Senior Day with two victories over Eastern Mennonite Sunday.
The Hornets recognized nine players from graduating seniors, student managers, graduate students, and a few players graduating early as juniors.
Over the past four seasons, the Hornets have won 82 games and played in the 2022 and 2021 Old Dominion Athletic Conference tournaments.
After the Senior Day celebrations, the Hornets swept the Royals with a pair of run-rule victories both in six innings. Lynchburg won the first game 8-0 and the second 12-4.
Kailey Dorcsis pitched her third shutout of the year in Game 1. The sophomore retired 12 batters in a row from the 2nd to 6th inning and struck out four.
The Hornets started the scoring in the 2nd, but Olivia Herman was the only hitter to pick up an RBI in the three-run frame.
Karle Cundiff smashed the loudest hit of Game 1 with a two-RBI triple in the 5th. Her fourth-career triple started off Lycnhburg's scoring outburst in the later innings.
After bases-loaded walks in the 5th and 6th innings, Caroline Joy tallied the game-winning RBI in the 6th after being hit by a pitch with the bases juiced.
Carly Hudnall and Ruby Stewart joined the triple party in Game 2. Hudnall hit her triple in the 3rd and drove in a pair of runs, and Stewart tripled home Madison Barnes in the 4th.
Eight Hornets tallied hits in the secnd game, Gracie Dooley led the way with a 3-4 game at the plate with four RBI, and Emily Charlton picked up her seventh win of the season in the 12-4 run-rule victory.
Dooley leads the team with a .515 on-base percentage.
Lynchburg (19-13, 8-6 ODAC) takes on No. 2 Christopher Newport on Monday for a double-header beginning at 2 p.m.
