Owings Mills, Md. -- University of Lynchburg beach volleyball freshmen SJ Yanz and Mady Shirey won both their matches Friday afternoon.
Playing at the second flight in both matches, the duo won in three sets against Stevenson and won 21-16, 21-11 against Berry.
Despite Yanz's and Shirey's success at No. 2, the Hornets fell to the Mustangs 4-1 and fell to the Vikings 4-1.
Yanz and Shirey won the first set against Stevenson 21-15. They fell 9-21 in the second but bounced back with a 15-11 victory in the third.
Against Stevenson, Kailey Keough and Jordan Palmer lost 10-21, 18-21 at the top flight. Amanda Trapp and Mackenzie Ingrassia fell at No. 3, and Margo Fox and Parker Lynch dropped their matchup at the fourth flight.
Molly Ballew and Landon Spotts lost in two sets at No. 5.
Against Berry, Keough and Palmer narrowly lost out 18-21 in the opening set at the first flight and lost 10-21 in the second set. Trapp and Ingrassia lost 17-21, 13-21 at No. 3.
Fox and Lynch at No. 4 and Spotts and Ballew at No. 5 both played tightly contested first sets in their losses. Fox and Lynch dropped the first set 20-22 then fell 14-21 in the second. Spotts and Ballew also played to a 20-22 decision in the first set at No. 5 then lost 7-21 in the second set.
Lynchburg (10-16) takes on the Mustangs and Vikings again on Saturday, April 8 beginning at 12 p.m.
