Box Score 2 Winchester, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg softball team took down Shenandoah twice in a double-header Saturday afternoon.
In their first Old Dominion Athletic Conference sweep of the season, the Hornets won 4-0 in Game 1 and 5-1 in Game 2.
Angela Sperandeo and Emily Charlton split time in the circle and combined to shut out Shenandoah in Game 1. The duo did not walk a batter marking Lynchburg's seventh game without allowing a base on balls.
Sperandeo pitched the first three innings and retired Shenandoah in order during the 2nd and 3rd.
Charlton took over after a pair of Lynchburg errors in the 4th and worked out of the jam. She struck out three on her way to her sixth win of the season.
Offensively, Bri Hodges carried a lot of the load as the designated player. The junior enjoyed her first multihit game of the season with three base knocks and two RBI. She singled in the 1st for Lynchburg's initial run and drove Georgia Thompson home with a triple in the 5th.
Shenandoah struck first in Game 2 after being shut out for the first time in conference play. The home team scored its first and only run on a wild pitch from Kailey Dorcsis.
Dorcsis rebounded nicely after the 1st and struck out the side in the 2nd. She faced the minimum in three innings overall.
Lynchburg was quiet at the plate until the 5th. Carly Hudnall opened the scoring with an RBI single and brought Kaleigh Hackett home.
Lynchburg scored two runs in each of the next two frames to pull away from Shenandoah. Karle Cundiff and Hackett drove in runs in the 6th, and Gracie Dooley and Hodges tallied RBI in the 7th.
Kailey Dorcsis completed her sixth-shutout inning to seal her seventh victory of the season. The sophomore leads the team in wins and has the sixth-most Ws in the ODAC.
Lynchburg (17-11, 6-4 ODAC) hosts second-ranked and defending-national champion CNU on Friday, April 14.
