Salem, Va. – The ODAC distinguished eight men and four women from the Lynchburg cross country teams with all-conference accolades following a stellar showing at the 2024 ODAC Cross Country Championships on Saturday.
Contrasting with other fall sports, the conference determines first-team and second-team accolades exclusively from the conference championship results. The top seven athletes receive first-team honors, while the eighth through 14th finishers earn second-team recognition.
Chasen Hunt earned the ODAC Runner of the Meet award and first-team honors for winning the race in 24:53.1. The junior from nearby Brookville High School continues to elevate his performances following a spectacular 2023-2024 campaign, which included a DMR national title and third-place finish in the NCAA Outdoor Championships 5k.
Hunt has finished first or second in his past three races heading into the regional championships.
Teammates Tor Hotung-Davidsen, Cooper Hurst, and Sam Llaneza joined Hunt on the All-ODAC First Team, completing a Hornets sweep of the top four. The trio of veterans closed quickly throughout the final kilometer to all-but-seal Lynchburg's fourth-consecutive conference title.
Llaneza and Hurst also ran at the 2022 ODAC Championships where the men's team scored a perfect 15 points, earning first through fifth place.
Freshman Alex Jordan from Lynchburg, Va. joined the party by finishing eighth to earn ODAC Rookie of the Meet honors. Jordan crossed the finish line in 25:13.5 as the first freshman in the field. He, along with freshman Cameron Sidebotham, traveled with the nationals squad throughout the season including trips to Indiana, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey.
Dylan McGraw (10th), Aidan Riggle (13th), and Randy White (14th) captured All-ODAC Second Team honors and showcased Lynchburg's depth on the men's side. The three underclassmen finished before Washington & Lee's fifth runner and closed the door for the team title.
On the women's team, senior Allison Dell finished second in the field to earn her fourth All-ODAC First Team honor in cross country. Dell earned a podium finish at the ODAC Championships in the past three XC seasons.
Following closely behind, Kayla Werner finished fourth and freshman Adelynn Carpenter finished fifth to garner first-team recognition.Â
Werner also received the Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year award; the junior fielded a 4.0 GPA in the classroom and impressed with three ODAC Runner of the Week honors this season. Last season, she finished 40th to become an All-American at the 2023 NCAA Cross Country Championships. This academic distinction is not Werner's first, as she received CSC Academic All-America Second Team and CSC Academic All-District honors for the 2023-2024 school year.
Kristen Werner rounded out the all-conference selections as an All-ODAC Second Team nominee following her 22:38.4 performance for 14th place.
Lynchburg hopes to tally several accolades at the regional level as the squad prepares to travel to the NCAA South Region Championships on Saturday, Nov. 16.
