Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's lacrosse team took down Southern Virginia 20-5 on Tuesday evening. The Hornets scored their most goals since posting 28 against Guilford in the 2021 ODAC Quarterfinals.
McKenna Steinau got the scoring started for Lynchburg early in the first and ended the night with a career-best four goals. Sydney Dumas and Neely Morris recorded hat tricks. Dumas has scored at least three goals in all three of Lynchburg's games this year.
Despite the large margin of victory, the Hornets faced a 4-1 deficit midway through the first. The Knights won five straight draw controls and scored four straight goals with two coming from the eight-meter arc. After Reagan Bradley scored to stop the bleeding, the Hornets ripped off 18 consecutive goals. 11 Hornets in total scored, Virginia Heffernan tied Dumas for the team lead with four ground balls, and five Hornets, including Dumas and Heffernan, caused two turnovers. Taylor Daugherty led the team with three draw controls. Corinne West earned her second career win after making four saves.
Lynchburg (2-1) takes on Meredith on the road at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 2.
