Lynchburg, Va. -- The Lynchburg women's lacrosse team fell to Messiah on Thursday afternoon. Messiah delivered the Hornets' first home defeat of the season by a score of 20-7.
The Falcons were off to a quick start, opening the scoring early before Lynchburg's Mya Hausauer responded promptly, less than a minute later. However, Messiah reclaimed its lead, holding on convincingly for the rest of the game.
The Falcons were a force to be reckoned with on the attack, netting 11 unanswered goals to finish the half with a 13-2 lead. The third quarter presented a much more even contest, with both teams only recording two goals a piece.
Despite several promising attacks from the Hornets, Messiah held its dominant lead throughout the fourth quarter, closing out the match with a trio of goals.
Amid the Falcons' dominant play, the Hornets found some success in the attack. Lynchburg freshman, Hausauer, completed her second hat trick of the season taking her total to nine.
Despite being ranked number 15 in the nation to begin the season, Messiah was without a win in their previous six matches. The Falcons recorded their first win of the season at the expense of the Hornets' unbeaten home record in 2024.
Lynchburg (3-3) will benefit from a longer seven-day break before the next outing. The Hornets return to action on March 21, taking on Bridgewater at 5:30 p.m.Â
