Salisbury, N.C. -- The University of Lynchburg beach volleyball team defeated Catawba 4-1 and 3-2 in two matches on Friday.
SJ Yanz and Amanda Trapp secured the win in the first match against Salisbury with a three-set victory on the second court. After dropping the first set by just two points, Yanz and Trapp won 21-15, 15-13 to get Lynchburg its third point of the match. Jordan Palmer and Kailey Keough polished off the 4-1 win with another three-set victory after also dropping the first set on the first court.
Trapp and Yanz were set up for the match-winning point thanks to comfortable, two-set wins from Parkey Lynch and Lydia Nelson at No. 4 and Kassie Menard and Laney Burns at No. 5.
Lynchburg was in position to repeat the 4-1 win in the second match of the day after getting two more wins at No. 4 and No. 5. Lynch and Nelson won once more in two sets on the fifth court, then Menard and Burns won in a tightly contest match at No. 4.
After Lynchburg dropped its matches at No. 3 and No. 1, the match was once more decided by Yanz and Trapp at No. 2, but this time with a little more pressure. As the final court to finish, Trapp and Yanz secured the overall win for Lynchburg with a 15-11 win in the third set improving Lynchburg's record against NCAA-countable opponents to 6-4 and the team's overall record to 10-6. With 16 regular-season matches remaining on the schedule the Hornets are only three wins away from matching their win total from their inaugural season a year ago.
Lynchburg takes on Sandhills and Gaston in Dallas, N.C. on Saturday, March 16.
