Lynchburg, Va -- The University of Lynchburg women's lacrosse team improved its conference record to 3-0 Wednesday night defeating EMU 20-1.
Lynchburg got off to a relentless start in the first period, finding the back of the net less than a minute into the game. Following the game opener, the Hornets continued a stellar attacking display with first quarter hat tricks from Reagan Bradley and Sydney Dumas to secure a dominant 11-0 lead.
Despite a more competitive score line and display from the Royals, Lynchburg maintained the advantage both defensively and offensively in the second quarter. Dumas marked another standout offensive showing with two more goals before the Royals netted their only score of the night. Lynchburg's Neely Morris closed out the scoring in the final seconds of the half and started the third quarter with a goal to mark her third hat trick of the season.
The Hornets took a 19-1 lead into the final period. Lauryn Fling scored the lone goal of the final quarter, securing her third goal of the season and seeing out an assertive win for Lynchburg. In addition to continuous attacking success, Lynchburg also stood its ground defensively throughout the match. Meredith Bornholdt collected a game-high seven ground balls while Morris collected five, respectively. Additionally, Lynchburg held EMU to only three shots in the entire game, only conceding once in the second period. The Royals also only cleared successfully 33 percent of the time in their 21 chances. Lynchburg, on the other hand, successfully got past EMU's restraining line 12 of 13 times.Â
Lynchburg (6-3, 3-0 ODAC) travels to Guilford (4-4, 1-1 ODAC) for its next fixture, facing off at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 30. The Hornets are unbeaten in the last five meetings against the Quakers and will be looking to extend their unbeaten conference record with another victory getting to 4-0 for the first time since 2012.Â
