Greensboro, NC -- The Lynchburg women's lacrosse team defeated Guilford 19-4 on the road Saturday.
Payton Saville opened the game with an early goal, swinging momentum in Lynchburg's favor. While Lynchburg doubled its lead shortly after, the rest of the quarter was a more evenly matched contest. The game was held scoreless for over six minutes before Guilford cut into Lynchburg's lead. In the final plays of the quarter, Lynchburg restored its two-goal advantage to make it 3-1.
Lynchburg started the second quarter in similar fashion to the first, taking an early lead. Reagan Bradley was on the scoresheet twice within the first two minutes to complete her hat trick and extend the lead. Guilford found some attacking success throughout the quarter, however, it would only be a mere consolation as Lynchburg pulled away. The Hornets took a 9-3 lead into halftime netting six goals to the Quakers two.
Lynchburg took a real hold of the game in the third quarter and gained control of both the defensive and offensive phases. Chastity Koerner found the back of the net to start the second half before netting a second to mark her first career two-goal game. Lynchburg continued to pressure the Quakers , outscoring Guilford by seven. On the defensive end, the Hornets didn't allow Guilford to take a shot in the quarter and allowed only one successful clear. Sydney Dumas scored in the closing moments of the period to secure her fourth goal on the day and extend Lynchburg's lead to 16-3.
The Quakers were first on the scoreboard in the fourth period, finding the net shortly after the game restarted. Lynchburg responded promptly and regained control with several goals to see out the contest. Koerner was on the scoresheet again, recording her first hat trick before McKenna Steinau closed out the victory for the Hornets with a free-position shot.Â
Lynchburg continues its perfect run in conference play extending its record to 4-0. The Hornets face Roanoke (7-2, 2-0 ODAC)Â in their next fixture on Wednesday, April 3 at 7 p.m. Lynchburg has failed to emerge victorious against the Maroons since 2019. In the previous meeting, last season, Roanoke won by just three goals in a 10-7 win over Lynchburg.Â
