Tavares, Fla. -- The University of Lynchburg beach volleyball team lost both its matches against Mary Hardin-Baylor and Berry at the AVCA Small Colleges National Championship Saturday morning.
With the matches being played to clinch, the Hornets dropped both contests 3-0. Lynchburg was the No. 5 seed in the tournament and paired with the No. 1 seed Mary Hardin-Baylor and the No. 4 seed Berry in Pool A. With the losses, the Hornets are moved into the silver bracket for Sunday's matches and are out of championship contention. Lynchburg placed third in the silver bracket in 2023.
Mary-hardin Baylor won all three matches in straight sets. Mady Shirey and Tori Williamson lost 14-21, 14-21 on the third court, Sydney Phillips and Virginia Zalinski fell 19-21, 19-21 at No. 4, and Amanda Trapp and SJ Yanz dropped their match on the second court 17-21, 13-21.
Against Berry, Phillips and Zalinski fell once more at No. 4, Laney Burns and Kassie Menard fell 16-21, 16-21 at No. 5, and Jordan Palmer and Kailey Keough dropped their match on the first court 12-21, 15-21.
Lynchburg (9-10, 19-13 overall) will take on Huntingdon at 8 a.m. on Sunday, April 14 and Hendrix at 1 p.m. in the silver bracket.
