Tavares, Fla. -- The University of Lynchburg beach volleyball team placed second in the silver bracket at the AVCA Small Colleges National Championship on Sunday after beating Huntingdon 3-1 and falling to Hendrix 3-0.
Against Huntingdon, Kailey Keough and Jordan Palmer won 22-20, 21-10 at No. 1. Lynchburg's No. 2s, Amanda Trapp and SJ Yanz won in three sets. After dropping the first, they won the second 21-15 and the third 15-12. Mady Shirey and Tori Williamson fell at No. 3, but Laney Burns and Kassie Menard won in three sets at No. 5.
Lynchburg played Hendrix for the silver-bracket championship but Keough and Palmer fell at No. 1, Shirey and Williamson lost their No. 3 matchup, and Sydney Phillips and Virginia Zalinski fell at No. 4.
Lynchburg ends the season with 20 wins and a 10-11 record in NCAA matches. Both are significant improvements over the inaugural campaign for the Hornets in 2023.
