Beach volleyball closes out regular season on four-match winning streak and with upset win over Stevenson

Pikesville, Md. -- The University of Lynchburg beach volleyball wrapped up its regular season on a four-match winning streak Saturday after defeating Lancaster Bible 5-0 and taking down Stevenson for the first time in program history 3-2.

After sweeping the Chargers for the second day in a row, the Hornets squared off with the Mustangs for the third time in 2024 and the sixth time over the last two seasons. Stevenson had Lynchburg's number up to this point with five straight wins and outscoring the Hornets 19-5.

Things changed Saturday as the Hornets kicked off the road match with a win at No. 5 from Laney Burns and Kassie Menard. Lynchburg's 5s needed extra points to take down the Mustangs in the first set but rallied to a nine-point win in the second.

Stevenson took the next two matches at the fourth and third flights, leaving the program's first victory over Stevenson hanging in the balance between the top-two pairings.

Amanda Trapp and SJ Yanz won two close matches at the second flight. The second set was decided by only two points.

While Trapp and Yanz were grinding out the match-tying win at No. 2, Jordan Palmer and Kailey Keough's match was going down to the wire at No. 1. Palmer and Keough dropped the first set by 10 points but rallied for a reverse sweep over Stevenson's No. 1s. Palmer and Keough won the second set 21-17 and clinched the victory for Lynchburg 15-11 in the third set.

The win gave Lynchburg 19 wins overall for the season surpassing last year's total by six victories. The Hornets also ended the regular season with a winning record in NCAA matches. The Hornets are also on a four-match winning streak which matches its longest string of Ws in program history from earlier in the season.

Next up for the second-year program is the AVCA Small Colleges National Championships in Tavares, Fla. beginning Friday, April 12.
