Chesterfield, Va. -- University of Lynchburg men's golf senior
Alan Van Asch took home first place at the 76th Virginia State Golf Association Intercollegiate Championship at Lake Chesdin Golf Club on Tuesday afternoon.
Van Asch commanded the field, finishing six strokes better than the next top finisher to handily secure first place. In the first round of the tournament, the Raleigh, N.C. product tallied four birdies and just one bogie to conclude the round with 69 strokes, three under par. He was the only performer of the entire tournament to complete a round below par, which was 72 strokes for the course. He followed up with a solid score of 73 in the final round with four birdies to earn his victory, the first tournament win of his collegiate career.
Freshman
Sean Grzebin Jr. and senior
Joey Easmeil earned top-10 finishes at the event. Grzebin completed the tournament tied for sixth place at nine over par, while Easmeil finished tied for eighth with a +10 composite score. Additionally, Grzebin was the only other performer in the field of 42 players to earn a score equal-or-less than par, shooting a 72 on the first round of the invitational.Â
Sophomore
Bryce Jones was consistent throughout the tournament, shooting a 78 on day one and 80 on day two to place 17th overall.
Dylan Johnson (29th, +23),
Evan Tengwall (T30th, +24) and
Aidan New (40th, +42) rounded out Lynchburg performers at the event.

The Hornets look ahead to their final competition of the fall season when they travel to Greensboro, N.C. for The Cardinal tournament from Monday, Oct. 27 through Tuesday, Oct. 28.
