Lynchburg, Va. — The University of Lynchburg volleyball team continued its strong start to conference play, defeating Shenandoah 3-1 on Friday morning inside Turner Gym.
The Hornets (16-2) bounced back into the win column after seeing their eight-match win streak snapped earlier in the week at Virginia Wesleyan.
Lynchburg opened the match with a balanced offensive attack, tallying 13 kills to just four errors in the first set. Shenandoah kept things close with efficient hitting, but a late Lynchburg surge sealed a 25-19 victory.
The Hornets carried that momentum into the second set, dominating on both sides of the net. Lynchburg hit an impressive .344 while holding Shenandoah to .059. Ava Meinhardt anchored the defense with three blocks in the frame, while Leah DiNardo led the offense with four of her team-high 10 kills to secure a 25-14 win.
Shenandoah refused to go quietly, jumping ahead early in the third and holding off Lynchburg for a 25-21 win.
The Hornets regrouped in the fourth, starting on a 9-2 run and later extending their lead to 19-6. Shenandoah mounted a late rally, but Lynchburg closed the door with a 25-16 set victory to clinch the match.
Meinhardt and Kailey Keough each tallied nine kills, while setter Alexis Scipione dished out 25 assists and Mya Green added 11. Tori Williamson led the defensive effort with 17 digs, and the Hornets finished the match with a .219 hitting percentage as a team.
Lynchburg continues its three-match homestand on Wednesday, Oct. 8, when it hosts Guilford at 6 p.m. inside Turner Gym.
