PITTSBURGH, Pa. --Â The Lynchburg Hornets notched a 74-60 win over Geneva in the first contest of the Chatham University Classic.
Jamarcus Brown continued his hot start to his sophomore campaign, tallying a team-high 18 points and 10 rebounds for his second straight double-double. Brown also added three steals and three blocks on the defensive end.
Jayson Easton got the Lynchburg offense rolling early with a pair of quick triples, going on to chip in 13 points on 40% shooting from beyond the arc. Through the opening 13 minutes of the contest, the two teams traded buckets in a tightly contested battle. However, the final seven minutes of the first half were dominated by the Hornets.
Lynchburg held the Golden Tornadoes to just one made field goal in the final seven minutes of action, allowing only four points total. Good defense turned into great offense for the Hornets, who continued to disrupt Geneva's rhythm and force a multitude of turnovers, finishing with 13 takeaways compared to their own six. In turn, Lynchburg scored 12 points off turnovers in the first half.
After an 18-4 run gave Lynchburg a 14-point lead at the break, the Hornets never looked back. Throughout the final 20 minutes, the lead never dipped below eight points. Piercen Young secured a plethora of boards and buckets down the stretch, tallying 12 points, seven rebounds, and two steals on the night.
Nevertheless, the highlight of the night for Hilliary Scott and company was the Hornets' 17-for-18 (94.4%) shooting from the charity stripe—their best mark at the line since Nov. 19, 2017 (minimum seven attempts).
The Hornets return to play tomorrow, Nov. 22, to challenge Chatham University on their home floor at 2 p.m.
