Lynchburg, Va. -- The Lynchburg women's lacrosse team will start their season at home against Christopher Newport on Saturday, Feb. 15, at 4:30 p.m.
In recent history, the CNU Captains have controlled the series between the two programs. Christopher Newport has won the last 10 meetings between the two schools. Last season Lynchburg fell 4-19 on Shellenberger, which included a 12-1 start from the Captains in the first quarter.
Christopher Newport enters this season ranked 15th in the preseason poll, their highest preseason ranking in school history. Last season, the Captains finished in the top 25 after advancing to the third round of the NCAA Tournament. Brookelyn Morrison and Madi Rozgonyi were both deemed preseason All-Americans by USA Lacrosse Magazine. Morrison and Rozgonyi are two of 11 returning starters for CNU.
The Hornets enter the 2025 season as the fifth-ranked team in the ODAC preseason poll. Lynchburg returns their top five point scorers from a season ago, led by 2024 Second Team All-ODAC selection
Sydney Dumas. Head Coach
McKenzie Rafferty and company are looking to build off a 10-8 finish last season now in her second year at the helm.
This contest will be the first of seven home games this season for the Hornets. Their following matchup will be their first ODAC affair of the season, hosting Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday, Feb. 19.
