Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's lacrosse team dropped its season opener to Christopher Newport, 4-13, on Saturday night in soggy weather conditions on Shellenberger Field.
The Hornets (0-1) matched up against a strong side in No. 15 Christopher Newport in less than ideal conditions. The weather made it more than difficult to play in, but the women on the field preserved through the circumstances.
Kate Lamendola started the contest off with the first goal of the game less than one minute into the affair. The Hornets answered back as
Mya Hausauer bagged an unassisted goal. The Captains proceeded to score once mor in the first period and five straight to start the second quarter to take a 7-1 advantage with 7:33 left in the first half.Â
Neely Morris and
Reagan Bradley each tallied a goal and assist in the second and third periods, while
Chastity Koerner foundÂ
Margaret Scoggin for Lynchburg's final goal of the affair with 7:24 left in the final quarter. For the Captains, Maelyn Eversole and Kate Lamendola each scored twice from the last minute of the first half and on, contributing to a 13-goal performance for CNU.
Next up for the Hornets is another home outing against ODAC foe Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday, February 19 at 5 p.m.Â
