Lynchburg Falls to Randolph

Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- The Lynchburg men's volleyball team fell to Randolph on their home floor, 3-1.

Nick Redding tallied a game-high 20 kills along with six digs. Jeremiah Costello also reached double-digit kills with 12 on the night.  Miller Varley led the team in aces (3), blocks (4), and assists (40). Stefan Kapitanove and Bryce Jackson also tallied four blocks a piece. 

In the first frame, the Hornets came out with all the momentum. Lynchburg stream rolled the Wildcats, hitting .478% to Randolph's -.053%. The Hornets went on to claim the opening frame 25-13. 

Nevertheless, in the second set, Randolph turned the tide. The Wildcats found new life, led by Shamel Smith. The high-flying right-side hitter tallied 14 total kills on the evening. Tied at 19 a piece, Randolph once against found their rhythm, going on a 6-2 run to take their first win of the night. 25-21. 

The third set shared back-and-forth momentum swings similar to its preceding set. The two sides found themselves knotted at 19 for the second straight set. Once against, a 6-2 run by the Wildcats catapulted them in front by a set. 

Holding the lead for the first time in the match, Randolph showed no signs of slowing down in the fourth frame. The Wildcats quickly jumped out in front, taking a 14-8 lead. Lynchburg then strung together a rally of their own trying to force a fifth set. The Hornets battled back late in the frame to cut the deficit to two points, 21-23. Nonetheless, Randolph would extinguish the Lynchburg rally by taking the final two points to walk away with a 3-1 victory. 

This loss drops the Hornets to 7-8 on the season and 1-4 in ODAC play. Lynchburg will now travel to Danville, Va. to face Averett next Wednesday, Mar. 5.
