Lynchburg, Va. -- The Hornets' softball squad (2-0) hosts Mary Washington (1-1) for a midweek double-header on Thursday, Feb. 27, starting at 1:30 p.m.
Lynchburg has controlled the series between the two schools as of late, winning seven of the ten previous contests. Last year when they faced off, the two sides split the doubleheader on Moon Field.Â
The Mary Washington Eales enter this affair after splitting their opening double-header against Sweet Briar. Mary Washington dropped the first game of the season in extra innings. After a late six-run rally at the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game up, at the top of the eight, the Vixens scratched across the game-winning run to win in 11-10 fashion.Â
The Eagles' offense continued to fire off runs in the second game, highlighted by a five-run frame in the fourth. Mary Washington secured an 8-3 win for their first victory of the season.Â
 In Lynchburg's opening double-header against the William Peace, the Hornets picked up two shutout victories. In their first matchup,
Kailey Dorcsis threw all six innings, tallying six strikeouts and allowing two hits en route to an 8-0 six-inning finish in run-rule fashion. Fith year
Lexi Powell also collected a team-high three hits, two runs, and an RBI for the Hornets in this game.Â
In their second game, starting pitcher
Emily Charlton secured the win as she recorded four strikeouts with one hit allowed through her six innings of work. In this affair, Lynchburg tallied four hits for four runs for a 4-0 win.Â
This will be the second of three consecutive home double-headers for Lynchburg to begin their season. Greensboro waits on deck, as they will travel to the Hill City for a matchup on Mar. 2.Â
