Lynchburg, Va. -- The Lynchburg softball team returns home for a ranked opponent in the Salisbury Sea Gulls on Wednesday, March 19, starting at 2:30 p.m.
In the last 10 meetings between the two programs, the Sea Gulls hold a 7-3 advantage over the Hornets. In last years doubleheader the two sides split the contest, each winning one game.Â
No. 13 Salisbury (11-2) is coming off a loss against No. 20 Tufts in their final game of the Margie Knight Softball Classic. Before suffering that defeat, the Sea Gulls had won 10 consecutive games. Salisbury has been an elite team in regards to batting, holding a .335 average as a team with three student-athletes hitting .400 or better.Â
In the circle for the Sea Gulls, sophomore right handed pitcher Sydney Adolfson has been a workhorse. Adolfson has thrown over 55% of innings played thus far, boasting an ERA of 1.5 and a record of 7-0.Â
The Hornets (9-3) come into this contest after splitting their previous doubleheader on the road against Methodist. All three losses this year for Lynchburg have been by a combined four runs.Â
Fifth year
Lexi Powell has begun the 2025 campaign in spectacular fashion, holding a team-best batting average of .436 and six stolen bases. Junior
Sarah Watts has also hovered above .400, currently maintaining an average of .417 that includes a team-best nine extra base hits.Â
Following this affair, the Hornets host another ranked opponent with a conference clash against the Virginia Wesleyan Marlins on Saturday, March 22.Â
