Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg men's and women's tennis teams concluded a packed weekend of matches, including the men's tennis team's Code Red match against Guilford. The women's tennis squad matched up against Averett and Randolph-Macon.
On the women's side, the Hornets hosted Averett on March 28 at Crosswhite Athletic Club and lost, 4-0. After dropping the doubles point by losing each match, 6-0, Lynchburg battled in the singles event but were unable to claim any victories.
Maria Caro squared off against Ramanantoanina in the number one spot and was defeated, 6-2, 6-4.
Kayla Kosiorek lost to Jennika Jaison in the number two spot, 6-1, 6-0, and the Cougars claimed victory after
Harper Dodd dropped her contest in the number four spot, 6-1, 6-1.
Lynchburg followed that up with a narrow defeat at Randolph-Macon on March 29, losing 4-3. The Hornets won at least three games in each of the doubles matches, but ultimately succeeded the doubled point. In the singles event, Hair took down Meckenzie Letellier, 7-6, 6-2 in the number three spot.
Reese McAtee claimed a team point with a hard-fought win over Emma Turner in the five spot, 3-6, 6-0, 13-11.
Elora Grochowski earned the final team point for the Hornets in the number six spot with a 1-6, 6-2, 6-4 victory against Brielle Baughman. Although it was a close battle, Lynchburg dropped three singles matches to fall, 4-3.
The men's tennis crew wrapped up the weekend with a loss to Guilford, 4-1, on March 30. The Hornets were edged out in the doubles event.
Sebastian Soria and
Alex Rintoul claimed a win in the two spot against Henry Austin and Evan Wong, 6-4.
Sebastian Sierra and
Jorge Patricio Zepeda fell to Rylan Tuten and Emmanuel Oye in the three spot, 6-1. The duo of
Timothee DePaquit and
Luca Morbioli narrowly lost in the one spot to give up the doubles point, 7-6.
Guilford continued to add to its total in the singles event with wins in the number one and two spots. Sierra got one back for Lynchburg with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 win over Austin in the three spot. The Quakers closed out the match with a win in the four spot, leaving the number five and six singles matches unfinished.
The women's team returns to action this weekend for its Code Red match against Guilford on Saturday, April 5 at 3 p.m., while the men's group will have a breif break before its next contest at Ferrum on Tuesday, April 8 at 3 p.m.
