Lynchburg, Va. — The Hornets women's lacrosse team returns to action this Friday, March 7, on Shellenberger Field as they host the Virginia Wesleyan Marlins.
Since 2010, Lynchburg has dominated this matchup, winning every contest against the Marlins. The Hornets currently boast a 13-game winning streak over Virginia Wesleyan, including an 18-6 victory last season in Virginia Beach.
The Marlins (2-2) arrive in Hill City on a two-game losing skid. One of those losses came against a common opponent, the Methodist Lions. After falling to Lynchburg 9-5, Methodist went on to defeat Virginia Wesleyan 14-11.
Virginia Wesleyan's offense is led by Reese Morgenthaler, one of the top scorers in the ODAC. Morgenthaler ranks second in the conference in goals this season with 16 and is tied for first in points with 21. As a team, the Marlins rank third in the ODAC in goals per game, averaging 14.
Lynchburg (2-2) looks to bounce back after a tough home loss to No. 8 Washington & Lee. Sydney Dumas leads the Hornets in scoring, recording three or more goals in three consecutive games. Over that same span, McKenna Steinau has also posted multi-goal performances, including a hat trick and one assist against Methodist.Â
Following Friday's matchup, Lynchburg will hit the road for two games in Lake Wales, Fla. The Hornets open their trip against Warner University (Fla.) on Monday, March 10.
