Softball Travels to William Peace Triangle Classic

Lynchburg, Va. -- The Lynchburg softball squad heads to Raleigh, N.C., for four contests over the weekend at the William Peace Triangle Classic. The Hornets will face Piedmont and Muskingum on Saturday, March 8, followed by matchups against Marymount and Denison on Sunday, March 9.

Lynchburg (5-1) enters the weekend after a strong start to the season at home. In their first six games, the Hornets claimed four of their five victories via run-rule. Five Lynchburg players boast a batting average of .400 or better (minimum 15 at-bats), led by ODAC Player of the Week Sarah Watts, who is off to an excellent start, hitting .611.

The Piedmont Lions (6-6) arrive at the Triangle Classic fresh off a doubleheader sweep of Buena Vista University, snapping a four-game losing streak. Lions' starting pitcher Megan Steinmeyer has impressed early in the season, recording a 3.30 ERA and a 3-1 record in the circle. The senior has also contributed offensively, holding the fourth-best batting average on the team at .296.

No. 19 Muskingum kicks off its season this weekend, playing a total of six games from Friday to Sunday, including three against ODAC opponents. The Fighting Muskies are coming off a 31-win season in 2024, highlighted by an NCAA Super Regional appearance.

On Sunday, Lynchburg retakes the field to face Marymount (2-4). The Saints dropped both games of their first doubleheader before splitting the next two. Seven has been the magic number for Marymount this season—when they score seven or more runs or allow fewer than seven, they come away with the win.

To close out the weekend, Lynchburg takes on Denison (2-3). The Big Red enter the tournament on a two-game skid, most recently suffering a 10-12 loss to No. 2 Linfield. Senior infielders Annabelle Calderon and Jacqui Abogado have been red-hot at the plate, each hitting .500 or better to start the season.

The Hornets return to the Tar Heel state the following weekend, on Saturday, March 15, for a doubleheader against Methodist before returning to Moon Field.
