Box Score 2 Raleigh, N.C. -- The Lynchburg softball team wrapped up the William Peace Triangle Classic with two victories on their final day of play. In the first contest, the Hornets defeated Marymount 10-3 before closing out the weekend with a 2-1 win over Denison.
In Lynchburg's first game of the afternoon, the bats were hot throughout. Four players recorded multi-hit performances: Lexi Powell, Sarah Watts, Madison Barnes, and Kaleigh Hackett.
Lynchburg got on the board early in the bottom of the first inning, tallying three hits that drove in three runs. After a quick three up, three down in the top of the first, Marymount responded with three runs of their own in the second inning to tie the game.
Hackett led off the bottom of the second by reaching base, followed by base hits from Kaitlyn Regan and Powell, which brought in another run to reclaim the lead for Lynchburg.
Pitcher Logan Curtis retired the side in order in the top of the third to preserve the lead. The Hornets then continued their offensive showcase, adding three more runs in the bottom half of the inning. They tacked on their ninth and tenth runs in the fourth inning.
Emily Charlton closed out the final three innings, allowing just one Saint to reach first base, sealing the seven-run victory.
Later in the day, Lynchburg took the field again to face Denison.
Powell and Watts led the Hornets at the plate, each notching two hits. Powell recorded three multi-hit performances in four games over the weekend.
Kailey Dorcsis pitched a complete game for Lynchburg, allowing six hits, one run, and one walk while striking out eight. Dorcsis improved to 5-0 in the circle this season.
Denison struck first in the bottom of the first inning with an RBI single from Jacqui Abogado.
Lynchburg responded in the top of the third when Watts singled up the middle to drive in Powell, tying the game at 1-1.
From that point on, the game became a defensive battle. However, with the bases loaded in the top of the sixth, Hackett was hit by a pitch, bringing in Watts for what would be the game-winning run.
Lynchburg (8-2) leaves the Tar Heel State with three wins in four games over the weekend. The Hornets will return to action on Saturday, March 15, when they travel to face Methodist (5-10).
