Outdoor Track Returns Home for Dennis Craddock

Lynchburg, Va. — The University of Lynchburg track & field teams celebrated Senior Day and hosted their Code Red meet at the Dennis Craddock Coaches Classic this weekend.

On Friday evening, the Lynchburg community joined together to honor the late Frank Csorba with a memorial walk in lane eight before the invitational mile. The teams named the mile in his honor, and the University dedicated the first plaque on the Enza Steele Champions Walk to Csorba.

To begin the action, Aidan Riggle earned a personal best in the men's 1500m with a 4:04.79 for second. In the men's 5,000m, Carter Hudson shattered his previous PR with a 15:42.68 finish for fourth.

Following the memorial walk, Allison Dell clocked 5:03.94 in the Frank Csorba Women's Mile Invitational for a seven-second PR. On the men's side, Marko Kovacevic (4:10.95) finished in third place while Cooper Hurst (4:15.29) crossed the line in ninth.

Mile results do not qualify athletes for the National Championships during the outdoor season as the 1500m is the official distance event.

In the women's 5,000m invitational, Delaney Saulsbury solidified an 18:01.79 personal best and placed fourth in the field. The junior has earned a PR in each of her three outdoor races. Georgie Lanham earned 15th with a personal-best 18:51.12.

Three Lynchburg men finished inside the top 15 of the men's 5k invitational. Alex Jordan narrowly broke the 15-minute mark, crossing the line in 14:59.66 for fourth. Cameron Sidebotham finished sixth in 15:10.41, while Alex Paciello earned 15:16.84 for an 11th-place PR.

To begin the action on Saturday, the Hornets earned podium finishes in the 4x100m relay. The women's squad placed second with a 48.29 result, while Tristan Wright completed a comeback in the final leg for the men's team that placed first with 41.34.

Rylee Turner qualified for finals in the 100m dash prelims with a 12.50 result, claiming sixth in 12.47 for the second race.

Tristan Wright advanced to finals in the men's 100m dash and finished second with a 10.71 result after competing in the relay.

Betsy Mohnkern claimed the victory with a 14.41 finish in the 100m hurdles. The grad student remains 10th in the nation for national qualifying. Margo Fox also finished inside the top 10, earning a seventh-place result despite competing in the second section (16.83).

Jacob Hodnett led the way in the men's 400m, breaking 49 seconds for the first time with a 48.92 personal best. The senior also placed fourth in the men's javelin, setting a 161' 10" (49.34m) mark to move into first in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference despite competing in his third career javelin event.

In the 800m run, Hannah Edwards finished second with a 2:15.27 personal best. Ryan Warner snuck inside the top ten with a ninth-place 1:55.37 finish for the men.

Anna Miller cracked a 1:08.40 400 hurdles PR to finish sixth in the field following a personal best at last weekend's Colonial Relays.

The Hornets placed three athletes inside the top 10 of the 200m dash between the men and the women. Michael Hamm placed third with a 21.88 performance, while Jaylen Jones ran 22.24 for 10th. On the women's side, Betsy Mohnkern followed up a stellar hurdles performance by clinching seventh place in the 200m with a 25.98 result.

Lynchburg didn't limit the success to around the oval; the Hornets corralled a flurry of top finishes in field events with 22 athletes placing inside the top ten of their respective events.

Jamarcus Brown cleared a 6' 9" (2.06m) bar in the men's high jump to solidify the fourth-best mark in DIII and finish first in the field. Kacey Kelly also clinched a victory in the women's triple jump (37' 7¼" or 11.46m) after only competing in the javelin last weekend.

Lynchburg placed four athletes inside the top ten of the men's high jump, led by Brown's first-place performance. Aidan Hipp finished second (6' 4¾" or 1.95m), and Elijah Rose and Jaren Lee cleared 6' 2¾" (1.90m) for fourth.

The Hornets also placed four inside the top ten of the women's hammer throw. Kenzie Swicegood, Madeline Brainard, Kennedy Johnson and Kya Rucker each solidified top spots in the 19-athlete field.

Other notable results include Julian Powell's third-place finish in the men's pole vault (13' 9¼" or 4.20m) Allison Bobst's second-place vault for 10' 11¾" (3.35m) and Cameron Weber's third-place performance 10' 6" (3.20m).

Following the hammer throw, Kenzie Swicegood finished second in the women's discus (127' 5" or 38.85m) for a PR and third in the shot put (35' 4" or 10.77m). Demetri Hinton placed second in the men's triple jump (45' 3½" or 13.80m).

The distance squad departs for California on Monday to compete at the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Azusa Pacific. The three-day event begins on Wednesday, Apr. 16.
