Amherst, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's tennis team fell 3-4 to the Sweet Briar Vixens Friday evening.
The Hornets conceded the doubles point, dropping all three doubles matches. Graduate student Maria Caro and junior Ashley Hair fell at the top flight 1-6. Freshmen Kayla Kosiorek and Harper Dodd dropped their match on court two 1-6. Senior Elora Grochowski and junior Reese McAtee fell 0-6 on court three.
The Hornets came alive in singles play, taking three matches. Caro won 6-4, 6-3 at the top flight to earn her 100th career match win, doing so against her former school. Kosiorek nabbed a 7-5, 6-4 victory on court two. Grochowski won 6-4, 0-6, 10-4 on the bottom court. Unfortunately, Hair fell at the third flight 4-6, 3-6, Dodd dropped both sets 0-6 at the fourth flight, and McAtee fell 2-6, 1-6 on the penultimate court, leading to a Vixens a 4-3 victory.
The Hornets (6-4, 3-3 ODAC) face Randolph at home in a Hill City showdown on Saturday, Apr. 12 at 2 p.m.
