Box Score 2 Harrisonburg, Va. -- The Lynchburg softball team dropped the opener of its ODAC doubleheader at Bridgewater, 2-0, but bounced back with a 1-0 win to close out the day.
Game one quickly turned into a defensive battle. Lexi Powell recorded Lynchburg's only hit of the game with a double in the fifth inning, while Alyssa Talayumptewa reached base twice on walks and added a stolen base.
Bridgewater's Mackenzie Cauthorn was dominant in the circle, tossing a complete-game shutout with seven strikeouts.
In game two, the Hornets responded in a big way.
Kailey Dorcsis went the distance for Lynchburg, pitching a complete-game shutout with help from a flawless Hornets defense — the ninth error-free game of the season.
A double steal from Anna Grace Terrell and Alex Love in the top of the third set the stage, and Powell brought in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly — Lynchburg's first score of the day.
The 1-0 win marked the Hornets' second road shutout of the season.
Lynchburg improves to 19-11 overall and 10-6 in ODAC play. The Hornets wrap up their road trip on Wednesday, April 16, with a conference matchup at Roanoke.
