Lynchburg, Va. --Â The Lynchburg beach volleyball team traveled to Gulf Shores, Alabama for the DIII National Championship tournament. The Hornets are in pool C of the tournament bracket along with LaGrange and Huntingdon.
Lynchburg's (14-12)Â matchup of pool play will be against the LaGrange Panthers (1-16) on Friday, April 18 at 10 a.m. est. The Hornets have faced off against the Panthers three times in program history and have seized victory all three times. They plan to continue their hot streak against LaGrange to kick off their championship appearance.
The last contest of pool play will be against the Huntingdon Hawks (16-11). The Hawks have had the upper hand throughout the history of these two programs but the Hornets look to even up the series at 3-3.Â
Two of the winners of the three pools will receive a bye in the championship bracket. The two winners that will receive a first round bye are decided by multiple factors in pool play record, win percentage, set percentage, point differential percentage, and higher seeded team. The last place teams in each pool will play consolation games against each other while the others duke it out tournament style.
If the Hornets claim the top seed in the pool, they advance to the tournament bracket on day two which will take place on Saturday, April 19.
