Lynchburg, Va. – The University of Lynchburg softball team is preparing for its regular-season doubleheader finale against No. 18 Randolph-Macon on Moon Field this Saturday, April 26, beginning at 1:30 p.m.
Before the game, the Hornets will honor their fifth-year players and seniors: Emily Charlton, Kailey Dorcsis, Kaleigh Hackett, Addison Walter, Carly Hudnall, Logan Curtis, Madison Barnes, Anna Grace Terrell, and Alex DiNardo.
Lynchburg (23-13, 14-6 ODAC) comes into the matchup following a two-game sweep over Ferrum on the road in their previous outing. The Hornets are still in search of their signature win of the season, having gone 0-7 against top-25 teams so far.
The Yellow Jackets (30-8, 15-5 ODAC), meanwhile, are coming off a series sweep loss at the hands of No. 7 Virginia Wesleyan.
Randolph-Macon has been led by one of the top pitchers in Division III, Gracie Ellis. The senior right-hander currently leads the nation in ERA (0.45), WHIP (0.50), and hits allowed per seven innings (2.8). She also leads the ODAC with 186 strikeouts and has allowed just 13 walks all season.
At the plate, the Yellow Jackets boast a team batting average of .310. Their top performer, Tori Powell, is hitting .369 with 41 hits. Senior outfielder Amanda Lanyon is close behind with a .368 average and a team-leading 46 base hits. Both Powell and Lanyon rank in the top 15 for batting average and hits in the ODAC.
Looking ahead, the Hornets will next compete in the ODAC Tournament in Salem, Va., where they will begin pod play on Saturday, May 3.
