Lynchburg, Va. – The University of Lynchburg women's lacrosse team begins ODAC Tournament play at home on Saturday, April 26 at noon, taking on the Ferrum Panthers on Shellenberger Field.
These two teams met earlier this season, with Lynchburg earning a dominant 18-2 victory. Neely Morris and McKenna Steinau each poured in five goals in that matchup.
The Hornets (12-5) enter the postseason riding the momentum of a road win over Eastern Mennonite, snapping their only losing streak of the year — a brief two-game skid. Behind one of the most explosive offenses in the league, Lynchburg secured its first 12-win season since 2016.
Three Hornets finished the regular season ranked in the top 15 in the ODAC for goals scored: Sydney Dumas (48), Neely Morris (43), and McKenna Steinau (40). In the assists category, Morris (19) and Mya Hausaur (17) also landed in the top 15.
On the defensive end, Lynchburg has been equally impressive. The Hornets allowed the second-fewest goals in the ODAC this season, trailing only Washington & Lee. Meredith Bornhold has led a gritty unit that excels in forcing turnovers and dominating ground balls.
In goal, Alexis Senn has been a standout performer, boasting the fourth-best save percentage in the conference.
Ferrum (7-8) returns to Lynchburg with some serious momentum, having won five of their last six games to close out the regular season. Freshman Lana Barkovic leads the Panthers with 38 goals — including both of Ferrum's goals in the previous meeting — while senior midfielder Ashtyn Bishop has been the offensive catalyst, contributing 27 goals and 19 assists.
The winner of Saturday's matchup will advance to the ODAC quarterfinals to face Randolph-Macon on Tuesday, April 29.
