Outdoor Track Faces DI Competition at Colonial Relays

Williamsburg, Va. – The University of Lynchburg outdoor track & field teams traveled east to the College of William & Mary to compete at the 2025 Colonial Relays this weekend.

On day one, the Hornets produced several personal bests in the 5,000m run. Senior Allison Dell clocked 16:59.66 to win the women's field and solidify the seventh-fastest time in Division III. Dell placed ninth at the 2025 NCAA Indoor Championships with a 17:04.34 performance. 

Adelynn Carpenter earned a 17:45.48 result for 19th, while for the men, Aidan Riggle ran 14:58.96 to place 26th in the competitive field. 

For the sprints team, Tristan Wright placed fourth in the 100m dash with a 10.70 performance in the field of 53 athletes. The freshman previously ran 10.42 at the Jack M. Toms Invitational to set a new school record in his outdoor debut.

Margo Fox earned a personal best in the 100m hurdles, clocking 16.40 for 18th in the field.

In the 400m dash, Michael Hamm finished ninth with a 48.94 result for his fastest time in a Lynchburg uniform since transferring from Ferrum. Jacob Hodnett also finished inside the top 20, crossing the line in 49.65. For the women, Rylee Turner earned 23rd with 1:00.08 for a personal best. 

Josh Fretwell fell half a second short of matching his 3,000m steeplechase personal best, placing 10th with a 9:34.86 finish.

Freshman Alex Jordan broke four minutes in the men's 1,500m run with a 3:59.26 performance for eighth.

Betsy Mohnkern snuck inside the top ten of the women's 100m hurdles with a 14.68 performance for tenth place.

The majority of the relays took place on day two. The women's 4x400m relay clocked 4:01.13 for fifth in the field, while the men's squad took eighth with a 3:19.69 time. Lynchburg's women's squad earned the eighth-fastest time in program history.

Lynchburg entered a men's DMR squad that ran 10:30.75 for fourth place against DI opponents.

For field events, Jamarcus Brown placed second in the men's high jump invite with a 6' 7½" (2.02m) mark. Brown reached the same clearance the previous weekend at the Jack M. Toms Invitational.

Kacey Kelly set a personal best in the women's javelin invite, clinching a 131' 6" (40.08m) mark for fifth in the field. Kelly now sits eighth in the DIII performance lists for the event, accompanying her third-place mark in the triple jump.

Kenzie Swicegood crafted a pair of top-15 performances in throwing events. She placed 10th in the women's discus with a 121' 7¾" (37.08m) hurl and 13th in the women's shot put (36' 4½" or 11.09m).  

The Hornets return home to compete at the Dennis Craddock Coaches Classic on Friday, Apr. 11 and Saturday, Apr. 12. Next weekend marks the team's second home meet of the season, just two weeks away from the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships.
