Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's tennis team won their Code Red match against the Guilford Quakers 4-3 Saturday evening.
The Hornets conceded the doubles point by dropping their matches on the bottom two courts. Freshmen Kayla Kosiorek and Harper Dodd fell 2-6 on court two. Graduate student Maria Caro and Junior Ashley Hair evened the match count with a 6-2 victory at the top flight. Senior Elora Grochowski and junior Reese McAtee dropped their match on the bottom court 2-6.
The Hornets came alive in singles play, winning four of six matches. Grochowski made quick work of her opponent on court six, winning her match 6-2, 6-3. Dodd fell at the fourth flight 0-6, 1-6. Kosiorek, playing on court two, fought from being down 0-3 in the first set to win her match 6-4, 6-2. Hair put the Hornets up 3-2 with a 7-5, 6-2 victory on court three. McAtee dropped her match at the fifth flight 4-6, 2-6, leaving the match in the hands of the top seeded Caro. After dropping the first set 4-6, Caro battled back and won both the second and third sets 6-4.Â
The Hornets (6-3, 3-2 ODAC) continue their ODAC slate in an away match versus Sweet Briar on Friday Apr. 11 at 3 p.m.
