Lynchburg and Randolph Square Off in Hill City Showdown

Lynchburg, Va. -- Lynchburg softball welcomes crosstown rival Randolph for a midweek doubleheader on Wednesday, April 9, with first pitch set for 2:30 p.m.

Since 2019, the Hornets have won eight of the last ten meetings between the two programs, including three series sweeps—most recently on the road at Randolph in 2023.

The Wildcats (5-21) have begun to find some momentum, earning two wins in their last five outings. Despite the overall record, Randolph holds a 4-6 mark in ODAC play.

Randolph enters the matchup with the lowest team batting average (.218) and highest ERA (6.02) in the conference. Freshman outfielder Riley Shupe has been a bright spot at the plate, leading the team with a .355 batting average—currently the only Wildcat hitting above .260.

Lynchburg has won three of its last four contests, most recently splitting a doubleheader against Averett.

The Hornet offense has been heating up, tallying six or more hits in six of the last nine games—including two double-digit hit performances in their last three. In the circle, Kailey Dorcsis and Emily Charlton both rank in the ODAC's top 10 for ERA this season.

Wednesday's matchup marks one of just three home doubleheaders remaining for the Hornets. Following the series, Lynchburg will hit the road for its next three doubleheaders, beginning Saturday, April 12, at Sweet Briar.
