Lynchburg Wins Code Red Over Bridgewater, 3-1

Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- The Lynchburg Hornets snapped a four-match skid in the series against Bridgewater, defeating the Eagles 3-1 in Friday's Code Red contest.

Leah DiNardo finished the affair with a season-high 15 kills on an efficient .433 attacking percentage. Kate Hardie and Tori Williamson also notched double-digits kills with 14 and 12 respectively. Collectively, the Hornets tallied the second most kills in a match this season with 60. Ava Meinhardt and DiNardo combined for 5.5 total blocks as a tandem, as the Hornets tied a season-high of nine as a unit.

In the opening frame, Lynchburg began with on onslaught of offense behind a roaring Code Red crowd. The Hornets jumped out in front to a 12-2 advantage to seize control of the contest. Williamson put on a show in the first set, collecting six kills, helping her get started on what would become her fourth double-double of the year with 12 kills and 14 digs. The Hornets claimed the first set 25-19.

In the second set, Williamson continued her hot start adding four more kills, alongside Hardie with four kills in the second frame as well. Graduate setter Mya Green had a handful of highlight plays in the set, riddled with pancake saves, a block, and a kill. The two sides found themselves deadlocked at 18-18, behind each sides best offensive performance of the night. But a 7-3 run by Lynchburg sealed the set for a 25-18 win to go up by two.

Bridgewater continued to fight and stay alive in the third set, with the most competitive frame of the night. No side led by more than three points at any moment in the set. Nevertheless, the Eagles narrowly edged the Hornets 25-23 to force a fourth frame.

The Eagles capitalized on their first win of the night into the ensuing set, claiming a 10-4 advantage. But a 13-3 run by Lynchburg from that point put them back out in front and in control. With momentum back on their side, the Hornets went on to win 25-19.

Lynchburg (12-1) continues to build on their best start in program history with their fifth consecutive win. Tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 20, the Hornets host No. 6 Washington & Lee (11-0) at 11 a.m. on their home floor.
