Sweet Briar, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's tennis team took a trip to Sweet Briar College for its first fall competition of the year in the Battle of the Blue Ridge, taking home 22 total wins on Saturday.
The Hornets had five performers notch three wins on the day:
Kayla Kosiorek,
Maggie Wonderling,
Megan Tinsley,
Sarah Wood, and
Isadora Lima.
Ashley Hair, Kameron East, and
Gabriella Rivero each tallied two wins apiece while
Harper Dodd added one win.
Kosiorek rolled past Guilford's Ashley Belnap 6-0, 6-1. Lima cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Carolina Dirk. Hair delivered one of the day's most dramatic results, outlasting Sweet Briar's Lucia Bovard in a tiebreaker, 7-5, 1-6, 1-0 (11-9). Wonderling added to the solid day with a 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 win against Samantha Calvert, and later completed a convincing 6-0, 6-1 result over Randolph's Maddie Mills.
Additional wins came from Dodd, who topped SBC's Ari Venturi 6-3, 6-3, and Tinsley, who earned back-to-back doubles-style singles victories. Wood and Rivero also notched impressive results, with Wood collecting two victories, including an 8-1 win over SBC's Mallory Davis, and Rivero edging Zara Goolsby in a tight 8-6 battle.
In doubles, Lynchburg continued to shine. Kosiorek and Lima paired for two victories, including a dominant 6-0 win over Sweet Briar's tandem. Hair and Wonderling combined for a 6-0 sweep, while Rivero and Tinsley scored a narrow 6-5 decision over teammates Dodd and McAtee in an all-Hornet matchup. East and Wood rounded out the day with a 6-4 win over SBC.
Next up, the Hornets will scrimmage against the Randolph WildCats on Wednesday, Sept. 24 at 4 p.m.
