Lynchburg Enters Weekend Slate in Haverford

Lynchburg Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's volleyball team is back in action this weekend with three matches in Haverford, Pa.

The Hornets open play Friday, Sept. 5, against Scranton at 7 p.m. before facing host Haverford on Saturday at 11 a.m. and Springfield at 1 p.m.

Lynchburg enters the weekend with a perfect 5-0 record and growing national recognition. After a 4-0 start at last week's round robin tournament in New Jersey, the Hornets began receiving votes in the AVCA Coaches Poll.

Offensively, Lynchburg has been powered by a balanced attack. Three Hornets rank among the ODAC's top 15 in kills per set: Kate Hardie (7th, 3.35), Jacqueline Bryant (12th, 2.94), and Tori Williamson (14th, 2.75). Setter Alexis Scipione has orchestrated the offense, leading the conference with 9.6 assists per set.

On defense, Williamson and Morgan Clark have anchored the back line, each averaging more than 3.5 digs per set. At the net, Leah DiNardo is coming off a standout performance against Southern Virginia, tallying 2.5 blocks.

Scranton (1-2) looks to rebound after a tough opening weekend. Senior outside hitter Deanna Whelpley leads the Royals with 3.83 kills per set, highlighted by a 24-kill effort in their most recent outing. Senior setter Cammi Quirk is also off to a strong start, averaging 9.17 assists per set. The duo headlines a veteran group that won 17 matches a season ago.

Haverford (3-1) enters the weekend on the heels of its own invitational, where the Fords collected three victories, including two sweeps and a four-set win over Union (N.Y.). Their lone loss came in a five-set battle with Stockton. Sophomore middle blocker Fiona Moord earned Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors after her strong opening weekend.

Springfield (3-0) remains unbeaten after sweeping through its home tournament to start the season. The Pride began the year receiving votes in the national preseason poll following a 22-8 campaign that featured an NCAA tournament appearance. Springfield returns several standouts, including All-America setter Tori Colosimo and outside hitters Emily Keaveney, Olivia Nealy, and Ahunna James.
