Lynchburg Defeats Shenandoah at Home, 78-65

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg men's basketball team secured a 78–65 victory over Shenandoah on Saturday evening, using a dominant first half and a strong effort on the glass to pull away from the Hornets.

Sophomore forward Jamarcus Brown paced Lynchburg (9-5, 4-1) with a team-high 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting, adding six rebounds in the win. Guard Michael Gray also turned in a strong performance, finishing with 13 points, three steals, and tying a career high with eight rebounds. Piercen Young also notched double figures with 13 points and six rebounds.

Lynchburg jumped out to an early advantage, shooting 53.6 percent from the field in the opening half and building a 44–31 lead at the break. The Hornets set the tone inside, outscoring Shenandoah (7-6, 0-4) in the paint and controlling the rebounding margin throughout the contest.

John Henderson provided a steady presence in the frontcourt, recording seven points and six rebounds, as Lynchburg finished with a 41–31 edge on the boards, including 13 offensive rebounds that led to second-chance opportunities. Henderson also played a role in Lynchburg's spark off the bench, as the Hornets tallied 37 total bench points.

Shenandoah was led by Dorian Davis, who scored a game-high 22 points, and Ellis Wright, who also finished with 22 points. The visitors attempted to rally in the second half, cutting into the deficit behind improved three-point shooting, but Lynchburg responded with timely baskets and trips to the free-throw line.

The Hornets went 22-of-32 from the charity stripe and held Shenandoah to 38.6 percent shooting from the field to seal the victory.

Lynchburg now turns to its toughest three-game stretch of the season, traveling to Virginia Wesleyan before heading to Hampden-Sydney, followed by a home game against Roanoke. The Hornets take on the Marlins on Wednesday, Jan. 14.
