Hornets Swarm Generals in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg men's basketball team snatched a major road victory Wednesday night, knocking off the Generals of Washington and Lee, 73-59.

The win snapped a three-game losing skid for the Hornets (10-8, 5-4 ODAC) and came against the league's top team, handing Washington and Lee (14-3, 6-2 ODAC) just its second conference loss of the season.

Lynchburg led 39-30 at the break after shooting 44.8 percent from the field in the opening half, knocking down six three-pointers. The Hornets maintained control after halftime, opening the second half on a 15-4 run to seize firm control of the contest. From there, Lynchburg never looked back, outscoring the Generals 34-29 over the final 20 minutes and pushing the margin to as many as 22 points late in the game.

Junior Jamarcus Brown paced the Hornets with a game-high 19 points and a dominant performance inside, finishing 7-of-7 from the free-throw line while pulling down 11 rebounds for his sixth double-double of the season. Senior Jayson Easton added 15 points on 5-of-13 shooting, connecting on five three-pointers, while Piercen Young chipped in 12 points and 11 rebounds for his third double-double of the year.

Lynchburg shot 40.7 percent from the field and 37.9 percent from beyond the arc, while holding Washington and Lee to just 32.2 percent shooting overall. The Hornets also owned a 44-34 rebounding advantage and turned defense into offense with eight steals and five blocks.

Washington and Lee was led by Connor Amorosi, who scored 16 points on 6-of-17 shooting. Colin Ryan added seven points and six rebounds, but the Generals struggled to find consistency offensively, shooting just 22.2 percent from three-point range.

The Hornets controlled the paint early and often, winning the battle on the boards and converting key stops into transition opportunities to seal the conference victory.

Lynchburg will be back in action next Wednesday, Jan. 28, when it returns home to face the Guilford Quakers.
