LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg men's basketball team collected its fourth straight victory, taking down Eastern Mennonite, 72-60, on its home floor.
Sophomore forward Jamarcus Brown continued his recent scoring surge, tallying a game-high 26 points on 9-of-13 shooting while adding nine rebounds and three blocks. Michael Gray chipped in 10 points and two assists, and Jayson Easton added 11 points and three rebounds to steady the frontcourt.
In the opening 20 minutes of action, neither team was able to gain much separation. After the Royals built a six-point advantage midway through the first half, the Hornets answered with an offensive surge that propelled them back in front by six at the intermission.
Once gaining the edge, Lynchburg never looked back. Jake Hart paced the offense and controlled the perimeter with three steals and a team-best five assists against just two turnovers. The Hornets maintained their advantage by winning the battle on the glass, 36-32, and the turnover margin, 14-10.
As a team, Lynchburg shot 45.8 percent from the floor and knocked down nine three-pointers, including five in the opening half. Meanwhile, Hillary Scott and company held the Royals to 44.1 percent shooting and prevented any player from scoring more than 13 points.
The Hornets maintain their position as one of the top four teams in the conference with two games remaining and will face two of the league's top teams, beginning with No. 21 Roanoke in Salem, Va., on Wednesday, Feb. 18.
