Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's tennis team put on a strong showing for its first competition of the spring season, earning a 7-0 victory against Hollins on Wednesday afternoon at Crosswhite Athletic Club.
Lynchburg set the tone early in doubles play, claiming all three courts without dropping more than one game. At No. 1 doubles,
Isadora Lima and
Kayla Kosiorek secured a 6-0 victory. The pair of
Ashley Hair and
Maggie Wonderling followed with a 6-1 win at No. 2, and the duo of
Harper Dodd and
Megan Tinsley completed the sweep with a 6-0 decision at No. 3.
Carrying that momentum into singles, Lynchburg continued to control every match in straight sets. Lima led the way at No. 1 singles with a 6-0, 6-1 victory. Hair posted a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2, while Wonderling matched that scoreline at No. 3. Dodd earned a 6-1, 6-1 decision in the No. 4 position.
At No. 5 singles, Tinsley recorded a 6-0, 6-0 triumph, and
Gabriella Rivero capped the afternoon with a win at No. 6 with the same set score. In total, Lynchburg swept all three doubles matches and all six singles contests, dropping just three games across the entire match. The season-opening performance moves Lynchburg to 1-0 on the year with a comprehensive victory on its home court.
The Hornets return to action at Crosswhite on Tuesday, Feb. 24 at noon when Washington and Lee visits the Hill City.
