Women's Lax Cruises to a 20-0 Win Over Sweet Briar

SWEET BRIAR, Va. -- The Lynchburg Hornets wasted little time asserting control Tuesday evening, rolling to a 20-0 road victory over Sweet Briar at Meyer Field.

The Hornets (4-0, 0-0 ODAC) scored 11 goals in the opening quarter and never looked back, outshooting the Vixens 27-0 and holding a 22-0 advantage in shots on goal in a dominant performance.

Sydney Dumas led the way with three goals on five shots, while Elizabeth Poitras added three goals of her own. Neely Morris filled the stat sheet with two goals and three assists for a team-high five points. Emma Timberg (2g, 2a) and Lily Messineo (2g, 2a) each recorded four-point outings as Lynchburg's offense showcased its depth.

Hayli Williams, Mya Hausauer, Isabella Vogel, Emmy Clay, Margaret Scoggin, Reilly Dinelli, and Chastity Koerner all found the back of the net as 12 different Hornets scored in the win.

Lynchburg's ball movement was crisp from the outset. The Hornets assisted on 15 of their 20 goals and turned 19 Sweet Briar turnovers into sustained offensive pressure. The draw unit also dictated tempo, as Lynchburg controlled 17 draws compared to six for the Vixens.

Defensively, the Hornets were airtight. Sweet Briar did not register a shot attempt, and Lynchburg committed zero fouls while allowing just seven ground balls. With the offense controlling possession for much of the contest, the Hornets did not face a single save situation.

After building an 11-0 cushion in the first quarter, Lynchburg added five goals in the second and four more in the third to close out the scoring. The fourth quarter was played scoreless as the Hornets comfortably secured the shutout.

Lynchburg will look to carry the momentum forward as it continues early-season play with a matchup against Christopher Newport on March 7.
