Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women's Lax Suffers First Loss of the Season at CNU

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's lacrosse team fell on the road Saturday afternoon, dropping a 17–10 decision to Christopher Newport at Jennings Stadium.

Christopher Newport (4-1, 0-0 C2C) struck first and controlled much of the opening half, building a 5–2 advantage by the end of the first quarter. Lynchburg (4-1, 1-0 ODAC) stayed within striking distance early in the second after a goal from Lily Messineo cut the deficit to 9–3 with 4:23 remaining, but the Captains answered late to take a 12–4 lead into halftime.

Lynchburg showed resilience in the second half, blanking the Captains while notching four goals of their own in the third frame. The Hornets maintained their momentum into the fourth quarter, as McKenna Steinau continued the run with her second goal of the game to cut the deficit to three.

Nevertheless, the Captains halted the momentum as the fourth quarter continued, gradually rebuilding their lead with a 5–1 run to close the contest.

Steinau led Lynchburg offensively with three goals on the afternoon. Messineo added two goals and two assists, while Mya Hausauer finished with two goals. Sydney Dumas and Neely Morris also found the back of the net for the Hornets. Emmy Clay contributed a goal and an assist, and Olivia Owings made 10 saves in net for Lynchburg.

Christopher Newport held advantages in shots (38–22) and draw controls (20–9) in the contest.

Lynchburg will return to action tomorrow, Sunday, March 8, hosting Piedmont.
