Amherst, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's tennis team earned a solid 5-2 win at Sweet Briar on Wednesday afternoon.
The Hornets (2-1, 2-1 ODAC) rebounded after a loss to Washington and Lee with a competitive road victory against the Vixens (0-1, 0-1). In doubles play, Sweet Briar took the No. 1 match as
Isadora Lima and
Kayla Kosiorek fell 6-2. Lynchburg responded at No. 2, where
Giovana Gaboardi and
Ashley Hair secured a 7-5, [7-4] win.
Maggie Wonderling and
Harper Dodd followed with a 6-2 victory at No. 3 to give Lynchburg the advantage heading into singles
.
Lynchburg claimed four singles victories to seal the team win. At No. 2 singles,
Isadora Lima posted a 6-4, 6-2 result.
Ashley Hair delivered a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4, while
Maggie Wonderling earned a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 5.
Harper Dodd completed a 6-0, 6-0 decision at No. 6.
Sweet Briar picked up wins at No. 1 and No. 3 singles.
Kayla Kosiorek was defeated 6-3, 7-6, and
Giovana Gaboardi fell 6-2, 7-5. With wins in two of three doubles matches and four singles contests, Lynchburg secured the 5-2 team result. The match featured straight-set victories in each of Lynchburg's singles wins and a pair of doubles triumphs that helped set the tone for the afternoon.
The Hornets now prepare for their spring break trip to Hilton Head Island, S.C. for the Spring Tennis Fest, where they will face the likes of Clark on Sunday, March 1 at 9 a.m., Lebanon Valley on Monday, March 2 at 1 p.m., and Gordon on Thursday, March 5 at 5:30 p.m.
