Box Score 2 LYNCHBURG, Va. -- It was a doubleheader that had a little bit of everything—dominant pitching, late-game heroics, and a wild offensive explosion—as Lynchburg collected the sweep against Roanoke in dramatic fashion at Moon Field on Sunday.
Game 1: Lynchburg 1, Roanoke 0 (9 innings)
The opener was a pitcher's duel that never blinked—until the final swing.
Both teams managed just six hits apiece, but it was Kate Charlton who controlled the game from the circle. The left-hander tossed a complete-game shutout, scattering six hits and working around traffic all afternoon.
Roanoke threatened multiple times, including advancing runners into scoring position in the sixth, seventh, and extra frames, but Charlton consistently delivered key outs to keep the Maroons off the board.
Lynchburg, meanwhile, struggled to break through against a strong outing from Baylee Compton. That changed in the bottom of the ninth.
On the first pitch of the bottom of the ninth, Helen Maddux laced a walk-off double to left field to bring in Georgia Thompson, sealing the 1-0 victory.
Game 2: Lynchburg 14, Roanoke 13 (8 innings)
If the first game was about patience, the nightcap was pure chaos.
After jumping out to a 4-0 lead through four innings—highlighted by RBI hits from Hailey Schildt, Zoë Elliott, Helen Maddux, and Alex Love—Lynchburg saw the game flip quickly.
Roanoke responded with three runs in the fifth, then exploded for four more in the seventh to take a 7-6 lead. The Hornets answered immediately, as Sarah Watts launched a game-tying solo home run in the bottom half to even the score at 7-7.
The eighth inning turned into a slugfest. Roanoke plated six runs to grab a 13-7 advantage, putting Lynchburg on the brink.
But the Hornets had one more rally in them.
Lynchburg erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the eighth, stringing together hit after hit in a relentless comeback. Alex Love opened the inning with an RBI double, Abby Lockhart followed with a two-run single, and Alyssa Talayumptewa delivered another two-RBI knock to keep the line moving.
Trailing by a run, Georgia Thompson came through in the biggest moment, driving in the winning runs with a clutch single to cap the comeback and complete the 14-13 walk-off victory.
