Track & Field Open the Outdoor Season in Lexington

Lexington, Va. – The University of Lynchburg outdoor track & field teams posted nine top-10 finishes in individual events at the W&L Carnival in the opening weekend of the 2026 outdoor season.

Women's Events

Hannah Edwards solidified a new personal best in the women's 1,500-meter run invite, clocking 4:52.17 to finish 11th with a four-second improvement. In her season debut on the track, Adelynn Carpenter placed 21st with a 5:05.55 performance.

Kacey Kelly cracked the podium in the women's 400-meter hurdles after sprinting to a 1:07.30 result for third place. Margo Fox crossed the line in 1:11.24 for fifth.

Haylee Smith secured a pair of podium finishes in the women's javelin throw and women's discus throw. The first-year Hornet threw 130' 4" (39.74m) for second place in the javelin, while she submitted a 117' 11" (35.94m) mark in the discus throw for third.

Before her hurdle performance, Kelly joined Smith in the javelin top 10 with a 121' 11" (37.16m) throw for fourth.

DaJanaeia Johnson and Kya Rucker rounded out the throwing events with top marks in the women's hammer throw. Johnson secured a 134' 1" (40.88m) toss for seventh, while Rucker tossed for 131' 11" (40.22m) and ninth.

In the women's 4x100-meter relay, a team with Kacey Kelly, Selah Parker, Audrey Lacombe and Margo Fox combined to post 51.05 for fourth place.

Hannah Edwards, Kaitlyn Ruiz, Rylee Turner and Brianna Taylor participated in the women's 4x400-meter relay and clocked 3:56.82 for second place.

Men's Events

Elijah Rose began the outdoor season with a personal best in the men's 400-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 57.12 for sixth place.

Cameron Sidebotham finished fourth in the men's 5,000-meter invite, solidifying a 15:11.52 performance. Micah Leech earned a new personal best in the men's javelin throw, improving to a 157' 7" (48.05m) mark for eighth.

A trio of the Hornets' relay teams climbed into the top-five results; the men's 4x100-meter teams finished second and fifth, clocking 42.44 and 43.18, respectively. The men's 4x400-meter relay team, composed of Parker Marshall, Blake Henson, Isaiah Davis and Noah Duffy, crossed the line in 3:23.07 for fourth.

Lynchburg prepares to host its first home meet of the season, the Dr. Jack M. Toms Alumni Invitational, on Friday, March 27 and Saturday, March 28.
