Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's lacrosse team delivered a dominant performance Wednesday afternoon, defeating Guilford, 22-4, at Shellenberger Field.
Hayli Williams, Neely Morris, Mya Hausauer, McKenna Steinau, and Lily Messineo each recorded three goals to pace a balanced Hornets attack. Emmy Clay added two goals and three assists, while Margaret Scoggin posted a team-high six points on two goals and four assists. Emma Timberg contributed two goals and an assist, and Gabriella Strano added a score. In goal, Olivia Owings made five saves in the win.
Lynchburg controlled the game from the opening draw, erupting for six first-quarter goals. Clay opened the scoring before Morris, Williams, Steinau, and Hausauer all found the back of the cage in a rapid offensive surge. Scoggin capped the period with a goal in the final seconds to give the Hornets a 6-0 advantage.
The Hornets continued to press in the second quarter, adding seven more goals to extend the lead to 13-1 at halftime. Timberg and Morris each scored early in the frame, while Messineo recorded a hat trick in the quarter alone. Steinau added two more goals late, including one in the final second of the half, as Lynchburg maintained complete control.
After the break, Lynchburg added two goals in the third quarter, with Timberg and Morris each finding the net to push the lead to 15-3. The Hornets' defense remained steady, limiting opportunities while forcing turnovers and efficiently clearing possession.
Lynchburg closed the contest with another offensive burst in the fourth, scoring seven times. Williams netted two in the period, while Hausauer added a pair of her own. Strano and Scoggin each contributed goals, and Clay capped the afternoon with a score at the buzzer to seal the 22-4 victory.
The Hornets finished with a commanding edge in shots (46-14) and ground balls (28-16), showcasing a complete performance on both ends of the field.
