Jordan Soars to Fourth-Place 10,000m Finish at NCAA Championships

La Crosse, Wis. – Alex Jordan posted a blistering 29:19.10 conference-record performance in the men's 10,000-meter run to secure fourth place and All-American honors at the NCAA Outdoor Championships on Thursday.

Despite racing just his second track 10k of the season, the Forest native set a 17-second conference record, submitting the fastest time in program history. Jordan improved his personal best by 31 seconds to claim five points for the men's team standings.

Men's 10,000m

All 22 athletes dipped under 4:47 for the opening 1,600 meters, although the pack quickly dwindled down to six in the following laps. After the initial five laps, Jordan maintained his position inside the top seven for the remainder of the race.

Jordan accelerated by eight seconds for his final lap to earn his second All-American accolade as a Hornet. He improved over a second per lap from his 29:50.18 regular-season split.

Men's Decathlon

Through five of the scheduled 10 events, Micah Leech now occupies 11th place with 3,473 points in the men's decathlon. The junior registered top-five performances in the 100-meter dash and high jump.

Leech's 11.21 100-meter performance marked a personal best by two hundredths of a second to win section one. He placed fifth with 814 points to begin the competition, which would represent his highest point total in any event on the first day.

In the following field events, Leech secured 11th in the long jump with a 21' 9½" (6.64m) showing and 17th in the men's shot put, throwing 35' 6½" (10.83m).

The men's high jump posed an early challenge for Leech, as he missed his first attempt on his opening 5' 7¼" (1.71m) height. From there, however, Leech made three consecutive clearances to surge into the top 10. Despite battling a tweaked ankle in his last jumps, he tied his personal best with a 6' 2¼" (1.89) mark for second place.

Leech closed the day with a 52.83 performance in the 400-meter dash for 20th.

Friday's remaining events in the men's decathlon include the 110-meter hurdles, discus throw, pole vault, javelin throw and 1,500-meter run.
