LC field hockey continues to roll after defeating Sweet Briar
LYNCHBURG, VA - Lynchburg College field hockey continued their winning ways by defeating Sweet Briar College 13-1 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play on Wednesday at Sweet Briar.
Despite a constant downpour, Lynchburg (7-2) scored the opener when Kristina Morris (Stafford, VA/Mountain View) netted the goal just 5:46 into the first half. Freshman Haili Hartman (Centreville, VA/Centreville) scored just 2:49 later and closely followed by Morris who scored her second of the day just shy of a minute later.
Sophomore Shelly Milks (Gloucester, VA/Gloucester) netted her first of the game off a feed from Lindsay Leonard (Yorktown, VA/Grafton) to take a 4-0 lead. Hartman added her second goal at 20:19 of the first half after an assist from Morris. Leonard then scored to make it a five-goal lead just 1:58 later.
Junior Tarah Rahner (Lincoln Univ., PA/Bishop Shanahan) got on the board when she took a pass from Leonard who added her second assist to lead all players in that category.
Milks then scored twice in the second half, with both goals coming 2:26 apart from each other. She would lead all scorers with three goals on the afternoon. Jenny Weir (Richmond, VA/James River) who had a career day Sunday against Frostburg State scored at the 25:33 mark of the second half to make it 10-0 in favor of Lynchburg.
Leonard would go on to score her second goal of the game just 2:15 later to make it an 11 goal game. Sweet Briar senior Lindsay Eneguess put the Vixens on the board with a goal at the 19:42 mark of the second half.
Rahner scored her second of the game off a feed from junior Amanda Wain (Fairfax, VA/Oakton) and was followed by sophomore Ashley Nelson (Midlothian, VA/Clover Hill) who put Lynchburg up by 13-1 to finish out the game.
Junior Tiffany Frye (Williamsburg, VA/Bruton) played 54:18 during the game and made one save. Sweet Briar goalie Madeline Wilson had 24 saves in the contest.
The Hornets will be in action on Saturday when they travel to Virginia Wesleyan College.
