BLACKSBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College men's and women's indoor track and field team traveled Saturday to the Virginia Tech Last Chance Invitational, competing against mostly Division I squads. The LC women broke three school records.
Junior Christina Washington (Silver Spring, MD/Springbrook) set the school record in the 400-meter dash in 57.56 and provisionally qualified for the NCAAs next weekend. Senior Ashley Allen (Richmond, VA/Hermitage) bested her own new school record in the shot put - throwing 41'4 ¼" inches. The 4 x 400 team of Jessica Gibbs (Lancaster, PA/Penn Manor), Jasmyne Johnson (Louisa, VA/Louisa County), Mel McFayden (Ipswich, MA/Ipswich), and Washington set a new ODAC and school record of 3:58.17, just missing NCAA provisional qualifying time by 0.27 seconds.
Senior John Michael Pavia (Forest, VA/Jefferson Forest) threw his second-best toss of 55' ¼" in the weight throw to place seventh. Ralph Davis also threw his second-best throw ever to place eighth with a toss of 51'7". James Bell (Huddleston, VA/Staunton River) cleared 15'2.25" in the pole vault and the men's 4x400 relay of Rashard Adams (Ashburn, VA/Stone Bridge), Rachad Davis (Virginia Beach, VA/Ocean Lakes), Evan Ellison (Atlanta, GA/McCallie), and Dakota Pellman (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) won with a time of 3:23.68.
